In the World Schools Debating Championships Format, a team comprises three to five people who prepare together. Three people speak in any given debate (though they can cycle who speaks between the rounds).

The teams will be the Proposition and the Opposition, and each speaker will have six minutes to speak. During the second to the fifth minute of each speech, the speaker will also be open to questions or statements from the opposite team known as "Points of information." After the six speeches, each team will have the option to deliver a three-minute summary known as a reply speech.
